Everton is reportedly closing in on the signing of a standout Championship midfielder, with manager David Moyes pushing for early deals to reshape the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season. The club’s new ownership under The Friedkin Group is backing a strategic rebuild, and midfield reinforcements are high on the agenda.

Sources suggest that Everton has identified Gustavo Hamer as a key target, with the player expected to leave Sheffield United following their failed promotion bid. Hamer, who was named Championship Player of the Year, is seen as an ideal creative outlet to complement Moyes’ possession-based system.

In addition to Hamer, Everton is also tracking three other midfielders, including Burnley’s Josh Brownhill, who could be available on a free transfer, and Manchester City’s James McAtee, with a £25 million bid reportedly under consideration. The club is also monitoring Ipswich Town’s Omari Hutchinson and West Brom’s Tom Fellows as part of a broader recruitment strategy.

With the transfer window now open, Everton is expected to move quickly to secure their targets and build a balanced midfield trio. Moyes is said to favor a setup featuring Idrissa Gueye in a defensive role, James Garner as a box-to-box engine, and Hamer as the creative spark.
